Covers the purpose of magnetic motor starters and their operation in general terms. Topics covered include; types of armature assemblies, magnetic air gap function, purpose of shade pole magnets, inrush current and sealed current, voltage considerations, overload relay operation, coil circuit characteristics, combination starter function, across-the-line or full voltage starter operation and low voltage or no voltage release and protection.

Prerequisites -  Knowledge of basic electrical diagrams ( Course Number 127 ) and electrical equipment terms. It is  mandatory  the trainee be knowledgeable in; the lock and tag procedures as practiced at your facility; electrical safety and grounding procedures the apply at your facility; and the proper selection and use of protective equipment as required for you facility.
