Identification of the basic types of rotary compressors; positive displacement and velocity head; purpose of and flow through the principal centrifugal compressor parts; impeller, diffuser and volute; multistage centrifugal compressor operation at both constant and variable speeds; the cause and correction for the operating condition of omission discharge venting, variable discharge, venting with variable inlet throttling, full inlet throttling, and full discharge venting; compressor start-up procedure; operating observations; and compressor shutdown procedure.
Prerequisites - Knowledge of the fundamental principles of compressed air systems (Course Number 129).
